Latest trip

Last time I was there last Sunday. There are teeth that I found. Also rays!

Now invertebrataphylism!

Today my Dad was in our main scientific library (ЦНБ) and found there some books about microfossils and mollusks. I began studiyng my mollusk collection, and found many interesting specimens.

Gastropods; Quaternary, Eocene, Cretaceous
 There are other Paleozoic invertebrates.

Sharkophylism

I wasn't blogging for at least 2 months! But now everything will change...

I had now collected more shark teeth, and therefore more complete ones.

The Best and The Most Complete Teeth
Lamniform teeth are the most common teeth in this location. Odontaspidids win in numbers, while Otoduses in size. On the first photo, the top tooth is perhaps from Otodus mugozdarhicus. My first thought was Otodus aksuaticus (for photos of their well-serrated teeth look here), but then I realized that my tooth was only partially serrated, so I now think that it is or Jackelotodus or Otodus.

Mostly unidentified teeth; central - Otodus

28 August

My first collecting day here, in Posdnyaki. I with my dad went there by a bus, and long searched for any fossils. Next a breakthrough - I saw a piece of sandstone and there was a whole Rugose coral - Grewingkia.

Two fossils, Grewingkia and a Tabulate coral.

                                                             __________
Perhaps the most chilling question was - how did Paleozoic coralls get there? I studied a geography atlas where was a geological map of Ukraine, and there was shown that Kyiv is made up of Paleogene deposits. However I didn't tell you everything. These remains were unearthed in artificial sand inwashes, so perhaps the sediments were mixed up.
                                                             ___________
Next we saw some sand hills and ran towards them. There we walked long, and them dad spotted a tooth of a shark(Lamniforma). It was our first vertebrate fossil found here.

Shark teeth
After it we found many mammal and bird bone bits. They all were small - no more than 2 cm.
